IDEA STORE TO INCREASE YOUR BUSINESS

Ever see a great idea and wish you'd thought of it? Now you can make it your own and benefit from its proven track record. Below are three recent examples of promotions that were a huge success. So you don't miss a single innovative idea, each month this newsletter will have new promotion ideas based on recent successes. Each of the successful promotions described below illustrate that promotional products have a powerful impact regardless of... the type of business you have, the size of your target audience or budget, the type of promotional product you need, from a small correspondence label to a top-level business gift, or the response you seek, from a specific purchase by a specific time to a more passive response such as goodwill.

krogersgrandopening.gif (6758 bytes)Class: Goodwill Programs
Objective: To demonstrate Kroger's presence in Atlanta and to promote the grand opening of its 100th store in the Atlanta area.

Strategy and Execution: To celebrate their newest Atlanta store, Kroger threw a large party for the shoppers in its community.  The multi-faceted campaign even influenced the design of employee uniforms.  The stylish, long-sleeve denim shirt was a big hit with employees and the shirt's custom logo became the logo for the entire campaign.  Smartly designed acrylic grocery bags were delivered to legislators in the state capitol to remind them of the store's grand opening event, and 10 sets of gold scissors mounted on a plaque were presented to dignitaries at the official ribbon cutting.  On opening day, store customers received a series of promotional products including key tags, lapel pins and commemorative cups; and customers purchasing wine received a special wine bottle opener.

Results: The grand opening was a tremendous success, prompting the store's advertising manager to note that this was the largest grand opening ever in Atlanta.

palisades.gif (6241 bytes)Class: Business-To-Business Programs
Objective: To motivate commercial real estate brokers to regularly show the Palisades, a new Atlanta office building.

Strategy and Execution: During a six-and-a-half month campaign, the top 400 commercial real estate brokers in Atlanta were sent a series of items promoting the TrizecHahn Office Properties.  The mailers reminded brokers of TrizecHahn's newest property and highlighted an increased commission and gift certificate program.  With a theme of "Money to Burn," the brokers were offered monthly, lively suggestions for how they could spend the extra money they might earn from bringing new office tenants to the building.   A zippered coconut filled with chocolate gold coins arrived in the first month to suggest an island vacation.  Other incentives included a sports car sound tube filled with a key chain and other collateral.  A golf mug and putting cup suggested a fantasy tee time at Pebble Beach or St. Andrew's.  Other monthly reminders supported the theme and filled the targeted brokers' desk with a variety of entertaining promotional items.

Results: Within 8 1/2 months of the promotion's launch, leases were signed for 233,689 square feet--89% of the property--and a letter of intent was signed for an additional 18,300 square feet.

denveraquarium.gif (6914 bytes)Class: Not-For-Profit Programs
Objective: To announce and commemorate the grand opening of a brand new, world-class Denver aquarium.

Strategy and Execution: One of Ocean Journey's goals with this campaign was to use a totally unique series of promotional products-items which had never been seen or used before.  Successfully meeting that goal, they presented porcelain and brass Limoges boxes, created in Limoges, France, to the aquariums' top donors.   Purchasers of Lifetime Memberships received, at a commemorative dinner, an Old World style, custom-made, leather passport holder containing their membership card.  The aquarium's Board of Directors received a custom-created miniature of the aquarium, sculpted in pewter, embedded in LuciteTM, and mounted on wood to create a handsome and dignified appreciation of the directors' service to the aquarium.

Results: The grand opening ceremony welcomed 87,000 people and grossed more than $2,000,000 dollars, making it the largest fund-raising gala in Denver's history.
